vidIQ vs TubeBuddy
vidIQ and TubeBuddy are the two best known YouTube growth tools. Both help with keywords, titles, ideas and competitors. They differ in where they work, how they charge and what they focus on. This page compares them fairly, then says where VidLasso fits. We make VidLasso, so weigh that.
In one line each
- vidIQ is an AI first research and growth tool: trends, ideas, keywords, an AI coach and an MCP server, paid in monthly AI credits.
- TubeBuddy is a toolkit that works inside YouTube through its browser extension: SEO, A/B tests, bulk editing and upload productivity, licensed per channel.
vidIQ
Strengths, from vidIQ's own pages as of November 2026:
- Niche trends, data backed content ideas and an AI Coach.
- Keyword research with search volume and competition, outlier videos and competitor stats.
- Thumbnail generation and, on Max, short clipping.
- A hosted MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants, included on every plan, even Free. Tool calls use plan credits.
- Plans: Free with 150 AI credits a month; Boost at $19 a month or $199 a year (2,000 credits); Max at $49 a month or $468 a year (6,000 credits). Enterprise and 1-on-1 coaching are sold separately.
Things to know: most of the value is in research and ideas. Credits cap how much you can run, and vidIQ says one prompt through MCP can trigger several calls.
TubeBuddy
Strengths, from TubeBuddy's pricing page as of November 2026:
- Keyword Explorer, SEO Studio, tag tools and search rank tracking.
- Thumbnail and title A/B testing on Legend.
- Bulk tools: find, replace and append, end screens, cards and thumbnail overlays.
- Upload productivity: default upload profiles, scheduled publish, canned comment responses, channel backup.
- Plans: Pro at $144 a year (about $12 a month) and Legend at $316.68 a year (about $26.39 a month); paying monthly costs more. Enterprise has custom pricing. A license covers one YouTube channel, and Legend includes 2 user seats.
Things to know: TubeBuddy is YouTube only, Pro and Legend are for individual creators, and some tools are limited or missing on Pro.

Which one to pick
Pick vidIQ if you want research first: trends, ideas and keywords, with an AI coach, and you like working from Claude or ChatGPT.
Pick TubeBuddy if you live in YouTube Studio and want A/B tests, bulk edits and upload shortcuts on one channel.
Both have free options, so try each on your own channel before you pay.
Where VidLasso fits
VidLasso is a third option for the work after you publish, not a full replacement for either. It puts comments from YouTube, Instagram and Facebook in one inbox with replies in your voice, tells you why a video or Reel dropped, and keeps ideas, titles and scheduled posts in one place. It does not do A/B tests, bulk edits or thumbnails. If you post on more than YouTube and spend your time on comments, it may suit you better. See VidLasso as a vidIQ alternative.
VidLasso is in free, invite only early access. Tell us about your channels and we will email you when your spot opens.
Questions
Is vidIQ or TubeBuddy better for beginners?
Both have a free option. vidIQ's free plan includes 150 AI credits a month for ideas, trends and its AI Coach. TubeBuddy's paid Pro plan starts at $144 a year. Try each on your channel; the right pick depends on whether you want research or YouTube Studio tools.
Can I use vidIQ and TubeBuddy together?
Yes. Many creators use one for research and the other for upload and bulk tools. Check that you do not pay twice for the same keyword features.
Which one works with Claude?
vidIQ runs an MCP server on every plan. We did not find an MCP server on TubeBuddy's pages. VidLasso also has an MCP server.
Is VidLasso a replacement for vidIQ or TubeBuddy?
Not fully. VidLasso covers comments, drop explanations, ideas, title basics and scheduling across YouTube, Instagram and Facebook. It does not do A/B tests, bulk edits or thumbnails.
