YouTube MCP server for Claude and other assistants
VidLasso runs a hosted MCP server at https://app.vidlasso.com/mcp. Connect it to Claude, or any assistant that supports remote MCP servers, and ask about your YouTube channel in plain words. The assistant works with your permissions and your credits, and asks you before it sends or schedules anything.
What it does
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant call outside tools. The VidLasso server gives the assistant tools for the work that comes after you publish: the comments waiting for a reply, the numbers for a period, the video that slipped, the title you are about to use, and the posts you plan for next week.
It reads the channel you connected to VidLasso. That connection uses Google's read only scopes for your videos, comments and analytics. Write access, such as posting replies, is asked for only when you turn that feature on. The same server also covers Instagram and Facebook Pages.
What you can ask
- "What happened on my channel today?"
- "Which comments on my last video still need a reply? Draft answers for the questions."
- "Why did my Tuesday Short get fewer views than usual?"
- "Check this title before I post: my night walk vlog part 3."
- "What is working on my channel lately, and what should I stop?"
- "Look up search volume for 35mm street photography."
- "Schedule the video from my library for Friday at 6 PM with a title in my voice."
Set it up
- Get an early access invite and connect your channels in VidLasso.
- In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
- Paste
https://app.vidlasso.com/mcpas the URL and choose Connect. - Sign in to VidLasso, pick the workspace on the consent page, and choose Allow.
Assistants that cannot sign in can use a personal access token instead. You create it in VidLasso Settings, under MCP access, as Read only or Read and write. The full steps are in the MCP docs.

These are the tools that work with YouTube. The full list, with Instagram, Facebook and library tools, is in the MCP docs. Read tools are free. Write tools change something in VidLasso or on YouTube, or use credits.

Roles, credits and approvals
- Your role. A workspace has owners, editors and viewers. The assistant sees only the tools for pages you can see. A viewer gets the read tools and none of the write tools.
- Read only tokens. A token made as Read only hides every write tool.
- Confirm first. Sending a reply, saving a draft, scheduling, moving or cancelling a post and planning a campaign all need your approval of the exact action. Nothing is sent or scheduled without it.
- Credits. Tools that use AI cost the same credits as in the web app, from the workspace's monthly 150. Reading your own data is free. If you run out, the action does not run and uses nothing.
Privacy
The assistant acts as you, in one workspace. It cannot see other workspaces or tools your role does not allow. VidLasso never deletes your videos, posts or comments, and cancelling a scheduled post deletes nothing on the platforms. Your data is used to run the features you turn on. It is not sold, not used for ads, and not used to train AI models. You can see connected assistants on your Profile page and disconnect them, and revoke any token in Settings; a revoked token stops working at once. See the privacy policy.
Other YouTube MCP servers
VidLasso is not the only option, and it may not be the right one for you.
- vidIQ runs a hosted YouTube MCP server that is free to connect on every vidIQ plan, with tool calls paid in vidIQ credits. It is strong on research across other channels: keyword search volume, outlier videos, trends and competitor stats from vidIQ's own data. Pick it if research is what you need most.
- Open source servers you run yourself are free and often need your own YouTube Data API key. They are a good fit for public data and transcripts.
- VidLasso is built around your own channel after you publish: one inbox for comments with replies in your voice, drop explanations, scheduling with approval, and the same tools for Instagram and Facebook Pages.
VidLasso is in free, invite only early access. Tell us about your channels and we will email you when your spot opens.
Questions
Is the VidLasso YouTube MCP server free?
VidLasso is in free, invite only early access. Each workspace gets 150 credits a month. Reading your data through MCP is free; AI tools such as a drop explanation use the same credits as the web app.
Do I need a YouTube API key?
No. You connect YouTube to VidLasso once with Google sign-in, and the MCP server uses that connection. There is no Google Cloud project to set up.
Can the assistant post or delete things on my channel?
It can post a reply or schedule a video only after you approve that exact action, and only if your role and token allow writes. VidLasso never deletes your videos or comments.
Which assistants work with it?
Claude, and other assistants that support remote MCP servers. Assistants that cannot sign in can use a personal access token.
Does it work for Shorts?
Yes. Shorts sync like other videos, drop explanations cover them, and you can schedule a Short or a long video.
